friday free for all: olympic fever.

as promised, this week's free for all is olympic-centric (i know, you were waiting with bated breath!). behold, my favorite moments so far:

{quite a view}
 {as a huge fan of all children's literature (remember this?), i LOVED that britain honored their classics here}
 {how cool was this torch lighting?!  the copper petals were really throwing me off during the parade of nations (couldn't understand why matt & meredith were explaining nothing), but were very worth it when they came together to form THIS}
{so. many. fireworks.}
{how awesome is the view on this course?!  not that any of the athletes probably saw it...}
 {i am all about the royal watch}
{i'm obsessed with these two.  i think (cause i'm such an expert) it might actually help that they lost their undefeated streak in olympic sets against austria on wednesday- less pressure on each set moving forward, and now it's just about the gold!}
{missy franklin is adorable.  can't believe she still swims for her high school;
every school they compete against must be so angry!}
{i don't know if this is a tear of sadness on great britain gymnast louis smith because the team slipped from silver to bronze after the japanese challenge, or a tear of happiness over the surprise of medaling at all, which was a beautiful moment that i'm glad nbc showed us americans}
{my favorite moment so far.  it was spoiled for me earlier that day, but i was still on the edge of my seat and cried along with the fab 5.  there's just something about women's gymnastics.  and the "redemption of jordyn wieber" (as nbc loved styling it), was a beautiful thing.}
{the greatest olympian.  i was briefly lost in lochte nation, but i'm back on team phelps after not really enjoying lochte's arrogance and bro-ness (and that grill: no), and seeing some humbleness in phelps (who acknowledged and thanked his relay teammates for having helped him get to this moment)}

what have been your favorite moments?  and to what are you still looking forward?!  having grown up running track, i am naturally super pumped for those events to begin!

this weekend, i'll be watching olympic coverage pretty much non-stop while working on tons of diy projects for sis's wedding (follow me on instagram @aspotofwhimsy -i'll likely be posting updates on my progress!).  we are 3 weeks out (ohhh boy), so this is getting FUN.

have a wonderful weekend.

  1. Gah, I love the Olympics! My favorite moments so far have been Missy Franklin (who's precious) and the gymnastics girls winning the team gold medal (even though I knew what was going to happen, I cried like a baby!)

  2. Great pictures! My favorite moment was when Missy Franklin was reunited with her parents after her gold medal-winning swim! I still tear up when I see replays!

    Have a fun weekend!

  3. I love the Olympics. I just wish Bob Costas wouldn't ruin the results for us 5 seconds before they show the race. C'mon, Bob..really?!

    The olympics make me want to get in better shape. But instead I've been watching them from my couch eating chocolate and cheese and drinking wine. Yeah, that's more fun anyway!
